Position Purpose:

APT is seeking a driven, technically minded Electrical Sales Engineer to support sales, quoting, and project development for low- and medium-voltage switchgear (208V–38kV) products. This is a hands-on, highly collaborative role within a lean sales & marketing team headquartered in Lafayette, Indiana.

The ideal candidate has a solid foundation in electrical systems, strong communication skills, and the drive to support multiple simultaneous projects, ranging from fast-turn standalone units to more complex engineered systems. Key Responsibilities:

  • Estimation & Quoting: Review specs, drawings, and customer RFQs to prepare accurate and timely proposals.
  • Customer Relationship Development & Engagement: Interface directly with customers and their engineers, contractors, reps, and end users to clarify needs and promote APT solutions.
  • Market Development: Support business development by targeting opportunities.
  • Market Research: Compare APT products to competitive options.
  • Web & Inquiry Follow-Up: Assist with inbound digital leads, website content input, and online product positioning.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Coordinate with engineering and project management to ensure accurate scoping and smooth project handoff.
  • Specification Strategy: Participate in early-stage spec development and outreach to influence project scope and design.
  • Internal Versatility: Pitch in across the team as needed.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Familiarity with 3 phase systems 208V – 15,000V AC
  • Ability to read and interpret specs, one-lines, and electrical drawings.
  • The ability to demonstrate knowledge and familiarity with AC and DC Electrical Systems fundamentals
  • Comfortable communicating with technical buyers, engineers, and field contractors, etc.
  • Detail-oriented, dependable, and capable of closing loops without being micromanaged.
  • Motivated, flexible, and able to manage shifting priorities.
  • Familiarity with circuit breakers, switchgear, motor control and other electrical components
  • Proficient in the use of Windows based applications including but not limited to:
    • Microsoft Office Applications including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook
    • Adobe Reader
    • AutoCAD (desired but not required)
    • Ability to travel as necessary and handle other duties as required
  • Background supporting contractors, EPCs, or industrial distributors.
  • Experience with CRM, quoting software, or quote/project tracking systems.
  • Hands-on exposure to bid-spec projects or government/municipal bidding.
  • Electrical engineering coursework, trade experience, or a STEM/business degree.
  • 2–4 years of experience in technical sales, quoting, electrical distribution, or construction-related estimating (ideally power systems or switchgear).

  • Travel Percentage:
    • Generally, less than 5%, up to 10%
