Overview

The MES-MT is medium-voltage, air-insulated manual transfer switchgear designed to transfer a common load between two power sources

Two interlocked load-break switches provide open-transition transfer, allowing only one source to be connected to the load bus at a time.

Mechanical Kirk Key interlocking helps prevent inadvertent source paralleling, while optional fuses can provide integral overcurrent protection.

Why It Matters

Open-Transition Transfer

Transfers the load between two sources without paralleling them.

Source Interlocking

Kirk Key interlocking helps prevent inadvertent source paralleling.

Visible Isolation

Viewing windows provide a clear view of all three switch blades.

Flexible Protection

Optional fuse protection provides integral overcurrent protection when required.

How It Works

MES-MT manual transfer diagram Normal and alternate power sources connect through two mechanically interlocked load-break switches to a common load bus. NORMAL SOURCE ALTERNATE SOURCE LOAD KIRK KEY INTERLOCK ONE SOURCE CONNECTED AT A TIME

The MES-MT uses two mechanically interlocked load-break switches, one for the normal source and one for the alternate source.

During transfer, the connected source is opened before the alternate source can be closed, maintaining open-transition operation and preventing source paralleling.

FAQ

What is MES-MT Manual Transfer Switchgear?

MES-MT is medium-voltage, air-insulated manual transfer switchgear designed to transfer a common load between two power sources.

How does the manual transfer operation work?

MES-MT uses two interlocked source switches for open-transition transfer. The connected source must be opened before the alternate source can be connected to the load bus.

How does MES-MT prevent source paralleling?

Mechanical Kirk Key interlocking prevents either source switch from being closed unless the other source switch is in the open, disconnected position.

What source arrangements are available?

Typical configurations include Utility + Generator, Utility + Utility, and Generator + Generator source arrangements.

Can MES-MT include integral overcurrent protection?

Yes. MES-MT can be configured with optional current-limiting fuses rated from 50A to 1200A, or with overcurrent protection provided elsewhere in the system.

Can the switch position be visually confirmed?

Yes. Each load-break switch section includes a Lexan viewing window that provides a clear view of all three switch blades.
