Fabrication Department

Job Summary

Switcher Electric / APT group is hiring a Welder / Fabricator to join our fabrication department at our modern manufacturing facility in Lafayette, Indiana. We design and build high-quality generator and distribution switchboards, switchgear, and control panels for critical power applications.

In this role, you will perform MIG welding on a variety of parts and enclosures, including structural frames that support switchgear, as well as other components needed by the fabrication team. The work is varied and hands-on. You will support the department wherever needed to help keep production moving.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform quality MIG welding on mild steel parts, enclosures, frames, and structural components for switchgear and related equipment.
• Fit, lay out, and weld assemblies according to drawings and work orders.
• Support the broader fabrication department with welding needs as they arise.
• Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and welding symbols.
• Inspect your own welds for quality and make adjustments as needed.
• Maintain welding equipment, tools, and a clean, safe work area.
• Follow all safety procedures and collaborate with the fabrication and production teams to meet quality and schedule goals.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Reliable attendance and transportation.
• Proven MIG welding experience.
• Ability to read blueprints and welding symbols.
• Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and a strong team player.
• Physical ability to lift 50+ lbs. and stand for extended periods.
• Welding certification(s) preferred but not required.
• Willingness to take and pass a hands-on MIG weld test.
